Even while cutting more State spending than any other administration, Governor O’Malley has chosen to invest record funding to improve Maryland schools and make college more affordable. In part because of these better choices, we’ve gotten better results: (i) Maryland has had the #1 Public School System in America for 5 years in a row according to Education Week magazine; and (ii) according to the College Board, since 2007, we’ve done more than any other state to hold down the cost of tuition.
Today, Maryland students are achieving record success in the classroom. Elementary and middle school students are earning the highest scores ever on state testing, high school students are #1 in the nation in Advanced Placement (AP Success) and Maryland has record high school graduation rates.But even though Maryland’s schools are #1, Governor O’Malley is always pushing to do even better.
This session, Governor O’Malley’s budget continues record funding into Maryland schools and works to keep college affordable for more Maryland families. He is also proposing two key initiatives to give workers and students the skills they need to compete in the 21st Century global economy:
