![]() O’Malley/Brown Release Proposal to Retain Best Teachers in MarylandBaltimore, MD (August 18, 2006) – Martin O’Malley announced a new proposal today to help keep Maryland’s best teachers in the state and improve student achievement. Speaking before an assembly of new Baltimore City school teachers, O’Malley announced that as Governor he would implement a “Teacher Working Condition� survey that would give teachers a direct voice to provide feedback on the quality of their teaching environments and allow leaders to identify areas where improvement is needed. “The greatest factor in the quality of education our children receive is the quality of the teacher in their classroom,� said O’Malley. “By giving teachers an opportunity to be directly involved in shaping their learning environment, we can keep the best teachers in Maryland and improve student achievement.� A similar proposal enacted in North Carolina by Governor Mike Easley has demonstrated direct links between working conditions of teachers and student achievement.
