Governor for the State of Maryland. The endorsement came during a rally, hosted by Smith, at the Baltimore County Community College Essex Campus and was the latest in a series of endorsements for O’Malley and Brown. During the rally attended by dozens of hardworking families from Baltimore County, Mr. Smith cited Martin O’Malley and Anthony Brown’s willingness to work in partnership with local jurisdictions, their commitment to affordable higher education, and improved public safety and public education. “Since 2002, Martin O’Malley and I have worked as colleagues to strengthen our region’s commitment to safer neighborhoods, to create more economic opportunity, and to protect our water and the Chesapeake Bay, said County Executive Jim Smith. “I know Martin O’Malley, and I support him, because he has the new ideas, the vision, and commitment to build a stronger Maryland for everyone. “I am truly honored by Jim’s endorsement. Together, Jim and I have worked to improve the quality of life for families in the Baltimore region, and I looked forward to continuing that partnership as Governor, said O’Malley. “Its time Baltimore County and Maryland had a true partner for progress in the Governor’s Office. Standing on the Essex Campus of Baltimore County Community College, Smith said that Baltimore County increased funding for community college, and criticized Governor Bob Ehrlich for increasing college tuition. “Since he took office three years ago, Bob Ehrlich has raised college tuition by more than 45 percent. We need a governor who understands that education should be more accessible, not less. After the rally, Smith and O’Malley, along with a number of supporters, went door-to-door to meet with Maryland families in Randallstown. They discussed issues ranging from education and public safety to transportation and health care. ### |
