2 For 2: O'Malley Wins Both Debates; Defeats Both "Bob Ehrlichs"

“… I Pay for You. Without Us, You Are Done.

BALTIMORE, MD (October 14, 2006) – Martin O’Malley convincingly won this evening’s live gubernatorial debate hosted by Maryland Public Television, after easily defeating Bob Ehrlich this afternoon during today’s taped debate. In stark contrast, Bob Ehrlich resorted to his pattern of desperate attacks on progress and failed to offer any new ideas for Maryland’s future.

During the debate tonight, Marylanders continued to see the “Two Bob Ehrlichs during this election year – the one Bob Ehrlich that touts education funding, and the other Bob Ehrlich that failed to fully-fund Thornton, cut school construction funding $176 million, and increased college-tuition costs for working families by 40%.

“This evening we heard the tale of Two Bob Ehrlichs – in an election year Bob Ehrlich claims it was the best of times, but every other year it was the worst of times for Maryland families with college tuition, energy and health care bills going through the roof, said Hari Sevugan, O’Malley/Brown Communications Director. “Candidate Bob Ehrlich promised to end parole for violent criminals, but Governor Bob Ehrlich kept the revolving door of parole spinning faster than ever, putting violent criminals back into our communities.

During the live debate hour-long taped debate, the angry Bob Ehrlichs continued with the same old tired attacks on the people of Baltimore, while O’Malley discussed his vision to bring people together and detailed plans to strengthen education and make college education more affordable, improve public safety in every jurisdiction of our state, and reduce energy costs and utility bills.

Over the last year, Martin O’Malley and Anthony Brown have released a number of detailed plans to address some of the most pressing issues facing our state, including improving the quality, access and affordability of health care, improve our public schools and fund school construction, and improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay through programs like BayStat.

In contrast, Bob Ehrlich has not released one issue paper or plan to improve the quality of life for Maryland families over the next four years. In fact, there is no policy proposal on any issue posted on his campaign website. Instead, Ehrlich has relied on more of the same tired attack ads that newspapers have reported as “not true.
