BUS TOUR JOURNAL: DAY 2Wednesday November 1, 2006 Late Evenings, Early Mornings Layton’s Family Restaurant: What’s an early morning without some coffee? Even though Anthony Brown and Martin O’Malley woke up excited, everyone can use a boost. So at the Layton’s Family Restaurant in Ocean City, they shook hands and drank some joe after driving all night from Eastern to Western Maryland. Ocean Pines Breakfast: Then the two jumped over to Ocean Pines to help Get Out The Vote (GOTV to save time of course). They had a chance to enjoy some breakfast and talk about our right as a people to make choices about our direction. In the wake of the Post article today about the GOP’s election guide to voter suppression, this was an extremely important event to really talk about our freedom in the face of fear. Salisbury University: Afterwards, it was time to go back to college. Martin and Anthony sat down with students at Salisbury University to talk about the kind of Maryland we’re all working for and getting prepared for. Not only did they talk about their commitment to keeping tuition low and making sure every university in our state growing stronger; but they also talked about this opportunity just 5 days from now to have a state where we bring people together, people from all backgrounds, to make progress for working families. As the Mayor likes to quote… that “responsibility is one of freedom’s greatest privileges. (RFK for those keeping score) Cambridge Bethel AME: The GOTV conversation continued just an hour west when the Mayor and Delegate held a voter education rally with the African American community in Cambridge. From the discussion that took place, it was clear to tell there’s just a difference of philosophies between O’Malley/Brown and Ehrlich/Cox. One election guide asks citizens to make sure everyone can vote; the other asks citizens to challenge anyone and everyone – even with jail time if necessary. I bet you can guess which ones which. Bethel AME sure could. They left Martin and Anthony with such excitement about the kind of America and Maryland we all know we can be. Morgan State University: Soon, it was back to Baltimore to join Democrats and Democratic leaders from across the state to make sure we GOTV. Delegate Brown sounded the call to fulfill our “obligation to vote. The crowd went wild when Senator John Edwards came to the stage to throw his support behind positive change – change with a vision. It was great to see Morgan State come out in numbers. It’s clear to see, working families are moving forward. Here comes the O’Malley/Brown campaign to a neighborhood near you… Greater Baltimore Tomorrow!!! Nicholas Stewart |
